January 6, 1815, Twelfth Night
Rodriguez Canal – Gen.
Jackson’s laborers and troops keep fortifying their position while the women
and children in the city continue their vigil – beseeching Our Lady of Prompt
Succor to deliver them from the ravening jaws of the British. Gen. Pakenham discovers he must
put off tomorrow’s planned attack until Sunday, January 8th. Work on the canal
needed for boats to transport troops and cannon across the river is delayed
again.
