A large flag is raised

January 5, 1815

Villeré Plantation – The British work on their canal to extend Bayou Villeré to the Mississippi has set-backs as the ground is soggy and the walls collapse.

Rodriguez Plantation –The Americans continue building their breastwork, digging the Rodriguez canal deeper, strengthening the earthen-mud wall. At the center of their line they raise a huge American flag so the British can see it three miles away. Spies on both sides work hard to discover what Gen. Pakenham and Gen. Jackson are up to.
