Steamboat Power

January 4, 1815, New Orleans

Captain Henry Shreve slips his steamboat, SS ENTERPRISE, past the British lines to re-supply Fort St. Philip which commands the Mississippi downriver from New Orleans. The fort keeps the Royal Navy from sailing up to the city. It is the first time in history a steamboat is used in a military operation. Gen. Pakenham hones his plan, digging a canal to carry boats and men to the Mississippi for this dual attack while Gen. Jackson continues his build up behind the Rodriguez Canal.
