New Orleans – Gen. Jackson meets with Capt. Pierre Jugeant,
the man assigned to organize the Choctaw and Chickasaw warriors into loose
companies and is introduced to two important characters – Joseph Savary, a
former French officer who fought against Toussaint L’Ouverture during the
Haitian Revolution in Saint-Domingue. Savary’s dark face looks fierce and
determine as do his men, the Second Battalion of Free Men of Color. The second
character is General Jean Joseph Amable Humbert, late of the French army, who
led the French invasion of Ireland, routing the British at Castlebar,
eventually losing to the British at Ballinamuck to a young major named Edward
Pakenham.
