Story Continues and a Book Signing

jalousie door-shutters on typical French Quarter House

New Orleans – Arguments in the Louisiana Legislature show the divisions among legislators. Some call for assisting the British who promise to return Louisiana to Spanish rule, others call for neutrality – let the American thugs and British empire builders slug it out and go with the winner, while a small group points out they are already American and there is no choice but to fight with Gen. Jackson.

The season’s first large soirée, at the estate of Louisiana’s wealthiest man, Bernard Marigny de Mandeville, draws Aimée, Lucia, Elizabeta, along with journalists Gérard, Matthew, Catoire and Sophie where Aimée’s brother Poul makes a move to claim the heart of Lucia. Spy Harold Lowe is there to flirt with Aimée.
