Spanish moss draping oak tree

November 7, 1814

Pensacola in Spanish Florida – Gen. Andrew Jackson’s plan is simple and lethal. A feint from the west will divert the attentions of the Spanish while the main attack will come from the other side of the city along Pensacola Bay where British ships lay at anchor near Fort Barrancas, commanding the entrance of the bay southwest Pensacola, which the Spanish governor has generously allowed the British to occupy. The town is quickly overwhelmed by the Americans and the Spanish surrender.
