New Orleans – While Louisiana legislators bickers on what they should do – surrender to the British who promise to return New Orleans to Spanish rule or support the Americans, the crude Kaintucks who now control the city – some are for remaining out of the fray, hoping to make Louisiana a free nation once the smoke of battle has cleared. The social season begins with the first soirée. It is an intimate affair of invited guests gathered at Aimée home on the Esplanade.
